In Benedictine spirituality a heavy emphasis is placed on celebrating the liturgy in a dignified way.
The Holy Mass is at the centre of the monastic liturgy. The Liturgy of the Hours, for which the members of the community congregate several times each day, serves to deepen their relationship with God and to live and understand community life.
Benedict expects monks to "let nothing be preferred to the Work of God", thus showing perseverance in prayer is the primary sign of a vocation. Though the Psalms are recited together communally, they can at the same time be the sources of personal prayer as well.
All who visit the monastery may participate in the common prayer of the monastic community.
